Miles Duncan profile

Miles Duncan: Senior Scientist

Lab / Organization: Tessera Therapeutics

My fellowship research focused on the bacterial type three secretion system (T3SS), a needle-like apparatus used by dozens of bacterial pathogens to cause disease. I developed and carried out a high throughput screen for chemicals that block the T3SS, leading to my discovery of the small molecule inhibitors known as piericidins. Currently, I am working at a biotech startup developing Gene Writing technology–a new approach to genetic medicine. I enjoy the chance to work on an exciting new area of research, with the potential to make a big impact on treatments for inherited diseases. My goals are to continue to learn and grow as a scientist, while contributing to research aimed at bettering human health.
